New Covid-19 Measures

New Covid-19 Measures

We have been making some changes at Unit6, to get ready for when we can safely open again.  On the ground floor we have used our exhibition space to create  4 distinct ‘socially distancing’ art pods. Also exciting news, the pony box is nearing completion and will the create a cool art pod.

Using our main exhibition space means that we can actually house  more resident artists than usual!

We have also cleared passageways to make them wider and in our upstairs areas, to help social distancing we have  provided screens between each art pod.  We have installed  wall mounted hand sanitiser dispensers around the unit along with advisory signs to remind us how to keep safe.

So if lockdown provided you with the opportunity to release your creative side, get in contact with sarah@unit6.co.uk to come and see our  community creative space. You can book a desk for a long term project or have a weekly booking.  Working in a space with other creatives, gives you chance to bounce ideas, collaborate and be part of a creative vibe.

Rainbow for the NHS

Rainbow for the NHS

A rainbow for the NHS. We all wondered what Sarah could make of this old trampoline, during lockdown. Inspirational and thoughtful.

Unit 6 Art club

Unit 6 Art club

This month at Unit 6 Art club at Unit 6 studios, we looked at the work of Georgio Morandi. Giorgio Morandi (July 20, 1890 – June 18, 1964) was an Italian painter and printmaker who specialized in still life. In discussions we found that due to several of the resident artists use technology or high quality glossy images to create work, the simplistic paintings and muted tones of Morandi didn’t really inspire them. However everyone at the Unit 6 art club did enjoy drawing or painting the still life set up by Sarah. If you would like to join us with Art club, contact. art@unit6.co.uk

Featured on the right is work produced by James Young Art in response to a still life set up in Unit 6 Art Studios, If you would like to know more about our artist studios contact Sarah at art@unit6.co.uk or check out our webpage.

Lockdown

Lockdown

Great things do come out of lockdown, including this mixed media work from Enea Emiliani at Unit6, Barnstaple

Outside our Windows is a painting that feels like its going back to TV Play school with its myriad of windows. The excitement of peering through to the partly hidden bright images behind.

Screaming is his second piece of work.

Check out Enea’s other paintings at Unit6

Art Club

Art Club

Many artists feel that they would like to chat about which artist inspires them or maybe what can be learnt from artists in history. So we have started an Art Group. You can find us on Facebook under ‘Unit6 art club’. We will feature an artist each month and use these to inspire, motivate and learn from. When we can meet up in larger groups we will meet at Unit 6 but until then you can simply find us on facebook

We are now using the Government Track and Trace, to ensure we are Covid Safe. Simply download the app, scan and go.

Pony Box

Pony Box

Not many art studios can claim that they have a pony box in them!

Kevin Farrell-Roberts has completed his project and its now an amazing massage studio for  Washhouse Wellness.

A year in the making

A year in the making

It was just a year ago when Kevin and Sarah embarked on creating a creative community art studio. Now we have a creative space right in the middle of the town.

Resident Artists

Resident Artists

Being an artist can be quite lonely, however a residency gives artists the opportunity to connect and collaborate. At Unit 6 we have creative spaces, these are bookable spaces for long term residency. Resident artists get free access to meeting space, WIFI, Kitchen facilities, wash out area and exhibition space.
