We are excited to announce that from the 12th April we will be re-opening of Creative Spaces.
- Have you spent too much time in your own home over the last year?
- Are you using the kitchen table as your creative space and fed up of clearing up each time you want to sit down for dinner?
- Are you finding that talking to the walls are not the best form of creative discussion?
Then why not take up a resident maker space where you can make all your work. We are re-opening on the 12th April and At Unit6 in Barnstaple and we have one last creative maker space available. The space measures approx. 3m x 1.5
There is a 3 shelf bookcase for all your artist books, 2 x2 plug sockets for laptops, charging devices etc,
There is a desk and lighting.
You can access the space 24/7 so you dont need to leave if you are in the zone.
We also run an ArtClub where we have featured artists that we research and discuss to get the creative juices flowing.

March 8th was International Women’s day and two of our team celebrated by heading to the Beach for the Social Swim group with a dip on Saunton Beach. Many people like Unit6’s Jane Sharkey have taken cold water swimming in lockdown. “With so much research about the benefits of cold water swimming and an amazing beach on our doorstep, it is hard to resist a dip”. Shena Ruth Photography was there to take photos of the event.
Welcome to Unit6 come and have a look around our creative space.
The tour starts downstairs, with the Exhibition space, shared social space with kitchen. Then the tour moves into the well-being space with the Pony box massage and therapy space.

This month at Unit 6 Art club at Unit 6 studios, we looked at the work of Georgio Morandi. Giorgio Morandi (July 20, 1890 – June 18, 1964) was an Italian painter and printmaker who specialized in still life. In discussions we found that due to several of the resident artists use technology or high quality glossy images to create work, the simplistic paintings and muted tones of Morandi didn’t really inspire them. However everyone at the Unit 6 art club did enjoy drawing or painting the still life set up by Sarah. If you would like to join us with Art club, contact. firstname.lastname@example.org
Featured on the right is work produced by James Young Art in response to a still life set up in Unit 6 Art Studios, If you would like to know more about our artist studios contact Sarah at email@example.com or check out our webpage.
Outside our Windows is a painting that feels like its going back to TV Play school with its myriad of windows. The excitement of peering through to the partly hidden bright images behind.
Screaming is his second piece of work.
Many artists feel that they would like to chat about which artist inspires them or maybe what can be learnt from artists in history. So we have started an Art Group. You can find us on Facebook under ‘Unit6 art club’. We will feature an artist each month and use these to inspire, motivate and learn from. When we can meet up in larger groups we will meet at Unit 6 but until then you can simply find us on facebook
We are now using the Government Track and Trace, to ensure we are Covid Safe. Simply download the app, scan and go.
